Women's soccer grabs 3-0 win at Castleton

Box Score

Castleton, VT - The Skidmore College women's soccer team ended its nine-game "road trip" with a 3-0 non-conference win over Castleton State.

Skidmore senior, Rachael Sushner scored a pair of goals and dished out
an assist to lead the Thoroughbreds through driving rain and past the
Spartans.

Sushner provided an assist on Abby Benton's game winner during the
21st minute. Benton and Sushner played a nice give go, setting up Benton
for the easy marker.

The Spartans Ashley Hertford had a pair of chances to collect the
equalizer for Castleton, but Skidmore goalie, Ellie Shorey was able to
turn both away.

Sushner tacked on a pair of second half insurance goals, one on a
perfect header off a corner kick. Katie Dalton served the corner into
the middle of the box and Sushner was able to head it past during the
64th minute of play. Finally, in the 89th minute, Sushner settled a pass
outside of the 18-yard line, split a pair of defenders, and beat
Castleton goalie, Cady Kerin for her seventh goal of the season.

Shorey stopped all five shots that came her way, earning the shut-out,
as Skidmore improves to 8-2-1 overall. Castleton's Nakita Baldic
played the first 45 minutes in goal, stopping four shots in the loss.
Kerin relieved and made two saves for the 6-4 Spartans.

The Thoroughbreds will host their remaining eight contests,
starting with Ithaca College on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
