Head of the Fish Results
Saratoga Springs, N.Y.--It was a busy and successful weekend for the Skidmore men's and women's crew and the Thoroughbred alumni rowers at the Head of the Fish.
The Head of the Fish offers opportunities for both varsity and novice to experience multiple races. The varsity athletes competed in events that ran the gamut. Singles, doubles, pairs fours and eights events all had representatives from our men's and women's varsity crews.
The big win of the day for Skidmore came in the Open Women's 8 event. The crew took home the gold medal and the fish head trophy with a time of 12:35.
Winning crew from bow to coxswain: Kacey Light, Meg Weagley, Alicea Cock-Esteb, Libby Gronquist, Korena Burgio, Martha Valentine, Carol Simonson and Kate Kenny.
Additional highlights included sophomore oarsman Jacob Boersma pulling to a third place finish in the men's single and Alicea Cock-Esteb winning the bronze in the women's single.
Skidmore's novice crews looked sharp during all four of their debut races. Competing in the extremely deep collegiate 4s and 8s events the Thoroughbred boats managed the top 50% finish in each race.
Skidmore also fielded a total of 3 alumni entries. The alumni women's 8 rowed the 2 mile course in a respectable time of 14:36 for a 4th place finish overall. Another great performance for the alumni came from the men's 4 taking 5th out of a field of 10. Plagued by a rudder problem at mid course, the alumni men's 8 still managed a solid bridge to bridge time of 13:13.
