Skidmore volleyball gains CPR awareness

The 2008 on-court volleyball season is over, but the team is definitely not done off the court. Having already held successful fund-raising events this year:

·        Dig-Pink match vs. Middlebury to support the goals of the Side-Out Foundation
·        Becca Ormsby's Team In Training effort to support The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society during the Skidmore Classic weekend

The team gathered last week to be trained on the lifesaving skills of CPR/AED.

As one of the founding members of The Heart Safe Club of Rhinebeck, rookie Amanda Turpin has been driven to provide community CPR/AED instruction to everyone she can. Turpin's efforts are a direct consequence of the death of a Rhinebeck High School teammate, Maggie O'Malley, from sudden cardiac arrest.

Even before joining our community this Fall, Amanda had decided to continue to honor the memory of Maggie at Skidmore by providing community CPR/AED instruction and promoting CPR/AED awareness – one of the Missions of The Heart Safe Club of Rhinebeck.

Having instructed our team is just the beginning of Amanda's plan. She is driven to find ways to continue providing instruction to other teams and other groups at Skidmore.

The Skidmore Volleyball team would to thank The Heart Safe Club of Rhinebeck team of instructors Arianne Loeber, Sarah Turpin, Amanda Turpin and Pat O'Malley for all their work. The team would also like to thank Julie Turpin for helping make the event happen.
