Kissimmee, Fla. - On the final day of the Rebel Spring games in Kissimmee, Fla. the Skidmore College softball team earned a split, falling to McDaniel 8-3 in the opener and beating Framingham St. in game two, 10-2 in six innings.
Coach Kelly Schwarz knew the competition was going to be tough at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, FL, but she also knew her team was ready to handle the challenge. After 10 games, the Thoroughbreds return home with a 5-5 record.
After dropping the first game, it didn't take the Skidmore long to strike against Framingham St., scoring three runs in the top of the first on the fourth home run of the season by
Julia Schwartz, which scored
Lauren Dinsdale and
Christina Gargiso. The scoring continued in the third inning as
Caitlin Ketcham drove a single to left field scoring
Tara DeGeorge and Schwartz added to the run total in the third stealing third and continuing home on an over throw into left field. The Thoroughbreds pushed their run total to 10 when Gargiso launched her first home run of her collegiate career over the left field fence to bring in
Carol Brown and
Arielle Manstein. Skidmore managed to work six walks throughout the game and with the timely hits all six walks came around to score.
Once again the battery of Sam Crose and Dinsdale proved to be a force for the Thoroughbreds scattering seven hits with three strikeouts and two runs over the six innings. Crose ended the week as the winning pitcher in all 5 wins for Skidmore with a lot of support from Molly Canavan, Abby Fuhrman and Schwartz who all pitched key innings in the wins throughout the week.
Notables on the week for the Thoroughbreds were Dinsdale, who hit .438 with 7 RBI's and one home run and also caught all ten games. First year Julia Schwartz made an immediate impact in the Thoroughbreds line up hitting .333 with 8 RBI's and four home runs.
The Thoroughbreds will resume play up north at Castleton State College on March 24th and they will host Utica College on March 28th for their season home opener at Skidmore College.
