Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – On Friday, Skidmore College baseball players
Spencer Marcus and
Nick Laracuente each earned 2010 ABCA/Rawlings New York Region Team selections and
Jake Mendell earned his second consecutive ABCA/Rawlings New York Region Gold Glove.
Marcus (Scarsdale, N.Y.) was a First Team selection after posting a 9-2 record with a 2.43 ERA. He made 12 starts this season; he allowed just 22 earned runs while tossing a team-high 81.1 innings. Marcus was also a First Team All-Liberty League selection and earlier this season became Skidmore’s all-time winningest pitcher in 2-0 complete game victory over Clarkson.
Laracuente (Tenafly, N.J.) earned Second Team honors, posting an 8-1 record during his junior campaign. He posted a 2.67 ERA; allowing 19 earned runs in 64 innings of work. In a 6-0 win over Rochester, Laracuente had his best performance of the season, tossing a complete game one-hitter.
Mendell (St. George, Vt.), a unanimous First Team All-Liberty League selection at second base, earned his second consecutive Gold Glove award after recording a .987 fielding percentage this past season. In 152 chances this season, he made 52 putouts, had 98 assists and committed just two errors in 36 games.
The Thoroughbreds won the 2010 Liberty League Championship and earned their third NCAA Regional appearance. They set a new school record for victories, going 30-15 this past year.
