Chronicle of the Horse Coverage
Lexington, Ky.-- The Skidmore College riding team is off to a fast start at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Show being held at the Kentucky Horse Park.
With five of eight events in the 19-team show completed, the Thoroughbreds are in first place with 20 points, five ahead of defending national champion Centenary College. There is a five-way tie for third at 12 points, between Mount Holyoke College, Sewanee University, Oregon State University, St. Mary-of-the-Woods, and Truman State University.
The Intermediate over Fences and Walk-Trot will be held Friday. The Open over Fences will close out the team competition on Saturday.
Skidmore took four second place finishes in the first five events. Scoring five points each for the Thoroughbreds were
Isabella McKeon (Walk-Trot-Canter),
Laura Roberts (Novice over Fences),
Chelsea Jones (Intermediate on the Flat), and
Kelly Campbell (Open on the Flat).
The Thoroughbreds have won five IHSA national titles, the last time in 1999.
