Voorheesville, N.Y. -- Skidmore College senior golfer Matt Canavan will be competing in the 88th New York Men's Amateur Championships being played July 20-22 at the Albany Country Club.

Canavan, representing McGregor Links Country Club, qualified by shooting 71 to tie for fourth in the Albany Qualifier played July 6 at the Colonie Country Club.

Joining Canavan will be Skidmore athletics Hall of Famer and Thoroughbred All-American Jim Welch. The 1990 graduate tied for sixth in the qualifier with 72.

The tournament field will be cut to 40 players, plus those within 10 strokes of the leader, after 36 holes of stroke play. The tournament will conclude with 36 holes of stroke play on July 22.
