Middlebury, Vt.-- Leading by four strokes after 18 holes, Skidmore fired a 292 on day two to capture the 27
th Duke Nelson Tournament hosted by Middlebury College. The Thoroughbreds finished with a 588, followed by Williams (607), defending champion Rensselaer (608), Springfield (609) and Middlebury (611). There were 24 teams competing in the event.
Skidmore's
Anthony DiLisio captured medalist honors with a 72 and 70 for a two-day total of 142. Action took place on the par 71 Ralph Myhre Golf Course.
The Thoroughbreds placed all five players in the top 19 in the tournament that featured 118 players.
John McCarthy was third with 74-72—142.
Garrett Colgan (74-76—150) and
Scott Pinder (76-74—150) tied for 10
th, while
Zach Grossman tied for 19
th with 77-76—153.
"It was a tremendous weekend,” said Skidmore coach Josh Cupp. “Golf is and always will be an individual sport, but we are really playing like a team. If one of us struggles, the other four pick up the slack and get it done. We played a very challenging course with the savvy of wily veterans. I continue to be pleased with the team's effort.”
Skidmore heads to Clarkson next weekend for the Liberty League championships.
