Six Skidmore College student-athletes were recognized by the Liberty League on Monday for their performances during the past week.
Women's tennis swept the weekly awards as Lee Ford was named Performer of the Week and Caroline Hobbs earned Rookie of the Week honors. Ford was a double-winner at the NY State Championships this past week, winning the No. 2 singles flight and teaming up with Nataly Mendoza to win the No.1 doubles flight. Hobbs won the No. 6 singles bracket as she didn't drop a set in her three matches including 6-0, 6-0 wins in the quarterfinals and semifinals.
Dani DeGregory earned Rookie of the Week honors in field hockey after posting a hat trick in Saturday's 7-2 win at Wheaton. DeGregory tallied two goals in the first half and capped the scoring with her third late in the second half. Skidmore is now 10-4 overall and hosts St. Lawrence this Saturday at 3 p.m.
In men's soccer, Tim Sullivan was named Rookie of the Week after recording a hat trick in Saturday's 6-0 win over Cobleskill. Sullivan scored three times in a 22:03 span to tally the second three-goal game of the season for the Thoroughbreds. Skidmore is 9-4-1 and travels to Liberty League rival RPI on Wednesday.
Sam Friedman was named volleyball Performer of the Week during a 3-1 week for the Thoroughbreds. Friedman totaled 77 digs on the week highlighted by a 46 dig performance in the 3-2 win over RIT. Skidmore improved to 8-0 in league play and sit at 18-5 overall. They host Union in a Liberty League contest tomorrow at 7 p.m.
Oliver Loutsenko was named men's tennis Performer of the Week after competing in the USTA/ITA Small College Singles Championship in Mobile, Ala. Loutsenko took seventh place, defeating Mya-Smith Dennis of Gustavus Albertus 6-2, 6-2.
