Four earn weekly accolades

On Monday, the Liberty League announced that four Skidmore College student-athletes were recognized for their performances during the week ending October 7.
 
Women's tennis swept the weekly awards as Nataly Mendoza earned Performer of the Week and Jordan Zola was named Rookie of the Week.  Mendoza went 2-0 in a 9-0 win over RPI, winning 6-2, 6-1 at number one singles and teaming with Alex Smith for an 8-3 win at number one doubles.  Zola won 6-0, 6-0 at number two singles and teamed with Rachel Plevinsky to win 8-3 at number three singles.  The Thoroughbreds return to action this weekend at the NY State Tournament.
 
Two athletes for Skidmore also were selected to the weekly honor roll in their respective sports.  Volleyball senior Carolyn Bottelier totaled 40 kills, 28 digs, eight blocks and six aces to lead the Thoroughbreds to a 4-0 weekend at the Union Interleague Challenge.  Skidmore is now 15-4 overall and have won 13 straight.  Women's soccer junior goalie Gab Lawrence posted a pair of shutouts in Liberty League wins over Vassar and Bard.  Lawrence made eight saves against Vassar and five against Bard to improve to 2-3-1 in league play.
