Thoroughbred run ends in ECAC East Semifinals

Northfield, Vt.-- Castleton State goalie Thomas Shelley had 21 saves to lead the Spartans to a 4-0 win over Skidmore College in an ECAC East men's hockey semifinal at Norwich University.
 
The Thoroughbreds end their season 12-13-2, while Castleton moves on to face Norwich in Saturday's championship game. The Cadets beat Southern Maine 3-2 in the other semifinal.
 
Dan Bell scored his 17th of the season at 10:11 of the first period to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead. The score stayed that way until late in the second when Tyler Atkins (16:47) and Josh Harris (17:59) scored goals within a 1:12 of each other to make it 3-0 after two periods.
 
Colin Murray scored at 12:31 for the 4-0 final.
 
Castleton outshot Skidmore 34-21 and went 1-4 on the power play, while the Thoroughbreds were 0-5.
 
Colin Bessey had 30 saves to close out his stellar career as Skidmore's all-time leader in save percentage (.901) and goals against (3.01).
