TROY, N.Y. - Melissa Hirsch and
Caroline Hobbs have been earned recognition in the Liberty League's weekly awards, as announced Monday afternoon.
Hirsch was named Performer of the Week for the second time this season after going 3-0 at numbers two and three doubles and 2-0 at number three singles to help the 19th ranked Thoroughbreds earn their third straight Liberty League crown. Hirsch defeated Bard's Lia Soorenian 6-0, 6-0 in a quarterfinal matchup before dispatching of William Smith's Casey Nicoletti 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals. The Alamo, Calif. native teamed with
Yumi Karlshoej to defeat Caia Diepenbrock/Lia Soorenian at #2 doubles 8-0, Kathleen Kennedy/Katie Drinkwater of William Smith 8-3, and Lindsay Kantor/Kelsey Van Noy of Vassar 8-6 in a crucial doubles match in the championship.
Hobbs was named Rookie of the Week in women's tennis for the fourth time this season after winning both of her matches at number six singles including the championship clinching win over Kelsey Va Noy of Vassar. She came back from down 0-5 in the first set to win 7-6 (7-5), then closed out the second set 6-4 to secure Skidmore's fifth point and the title. Hobbs also posted wins at number four singles and paired with
Zoe Valella for an 8-0 win at number three doubles against Bard.
