Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- The Skidmore College women's soccer team extended its winning streak to seven with a 1-0 win against Vassar, Saturday at Wachenheim Field.
The Thoroughbreds (7-0-1, 2-0 Liberty) extended their shutout streak to 478:08 in the win.
Arena Manning gave Skidmore the lead in the 22nd minute with her second goal is as many games. Manning poked a shot into the bottom right corner after collecting the ball 40 yards from goal and beating three Vassar defenders.
The Thoroughbreds nearly doubled their lead 4 minutes later but
Christine Bellotti saw her attempt from12 yards sail over the bar after Manning picked her out with a cross from the right wing.
The Brewers applied pressure in the early stages of the second half but
Gab Lawrence preserved the 1-0 lead, pushing Chloe Wheeler's strike wide of the left post and stopping Lily Lanier's header on the ensuing corner.
The Thoroughbreds best scoring chance of the half came when Nicole Lorusso guided a header just under the crossbar but Stephanie Tapolsky rose to make the save. Vassar mounted a final attack in the game's dying minutes, but Skidmore's defense proved to be impenetrable.    Â
The Thoroughbreds owned a 11-8 advantage in shots and a 3-2 edge in corners. Lawrence made three saves in her fifth shutout of the year, while Emma Nichols and Stephanie Tapolsky split time in goal for the Brewers, making one and three saves respectively.
The Thoroughbreds host Middlebury College Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m.
