#7 Skidmore wins big on the road, 3-1 over #17 William Smith

GENEVA, N.Y.-- The Skidmore College field hockey team rebounded from its lone loss of the season for a 3-1 Liberty League road win over 17th ranked William Smith College, Friday.

The Thoroughbreds up their record to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in Liberty League play. The Herons are 5-3 and 0-1.

William Smith scored first early when Katie Meyer scored her fourth of the season just 2:57 in.  Dani DeGregory (Greenwich, N.Y./Greenwich High School) tied it less than two minutes later when she collected her own rebound and fired one past Heron goalie Catherine Hare at 4:49.

DeGergory, the nation's leading scorer, scored the eventual game winner at 38:54 when she deked a defender and blasted a shot into the back of the net for a 2-1 Skidmore lead.  She completed the hat trick in the 52nd minute when she collected a bouncing ball in front of the net and buried her 18th goal of the season.

Skidmore outshot the Herons 14-8 and held a 7-4 advantage on penalty corners.

Amy Beck got the start for the Thoroughbreds making five saves on the contest. Hare posted seven saves.

Skidmore continues its Liberty League road trip on Saturday at 2 p.m. against #20 Rochester. The Yellow Jackets are a perfect 9-0 overall and 2-0 in league play.
