Second half surge carries Skidmore past Clarkson, 63-46

Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y.—The Skidmore College men's basketball team remained unbeaten in Liberty League play with a solid 63-46 win at Clarkson.

The Thoroughbred defense held the Golden Knights to 30% shooting from the floor on the way to the 17-point win.

Skidmore is 5-0 in league play and 8-5 overall, while Clarkson falls to 2-1 and 9-3.

Though neither team was particularly hot from the jump, it took more than five minutes for Clarkson to score its first field goal. Skidmore took advantage of the early misses by Clarkson and built a double-digit midway through the first half, expanding it to as many as 12 points with less than four minutes to go in the period.

In the second half, Skidmore pulled away, hitting its long distance shots after going without a 3-pointer in the first half.

Erik Sanders finished with 17 points and had 10 boards,  while Aldin Medunjanin added 15 points, and 11 rebounds. Connor Merrill tossed in 10 points and Perun Kovacevic produced seven points and 10 boards, including six on the offensive end.

"Your defense has to travel well and I thought it did tonight," said Skidmore coach Joe Burke. " This is a tough trip and Clarkson is a good team  with some really good players. I thought our guys rose to the challenge mentally and physically. Proud of how we competed for 40 minutes even when things didn't go well.

"We have a big break in between games. It will be good to get some guys healthy but at the same time we need to stay in a rhythm."

Skidmore returns to action on Jan. 23 at Union College.
