In the early going, despite a few misses in the opening moments, the two teams showed why they are the only remaining unbeaten teams in the Liberty League. Through the first 12 minutes of the game, neither team was able to get much of a lead, and the score was knotted up on eight separate occasions. With Clarkson up by a single point (19-18), Skidmore rattled off nine straight points to take a 27-19 advantage with 5:08 to go, but the Knights responded with seven points in the next minute to climb back within a point. Clarkson was unable to regain the lead, however, as McLaughlin buried back-to-back 3-pointers in the next minute and Skidmore held a solid advantage for the remainder of the half.
In the second half, Clarkson struggled mightily from the field, scoring just two points in nearly nine minutes of action while Skidmore took over by extending its four-point lead, thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers from
Lindsey Davis, into a 17-point bulge (53-36). The margin would remain in the teens for the majority of the second half.
We played a very strong game on the road in one of the toughest places to win in the liberty league tonight. Clarkson is not a deep team but they are certainly a well coached hard working talented team that will continue doing great things.
"Tonight we had great contributions from our non starters and our starters played a complete game," said Skidmore coach Darren Bennett. " It was good to see.We had to keep them off the offensive boards, take care of the ball versus their pressure and keep them off the free throw line to win. We did all three of those in great fashion. Molly McLaughlin stepped up tonight nearly walking away with a triple double. We've got a lot of kids playing well and our depth is paying off.
"We are looking forward to some days off, the start of school next week and a stretch of practices to get better and sure up some things as we move forward into league play."Skidmore returns to action Jan. 23 at Union.
