Skidmore men complete weekend Liberty sweep with 69-65 win over Vassar

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.-- Aldin Medunjanin scored 23 of his game-high 25 points in the second half to lead the Skidmore College men's basketball team to a 69-64 Liberty League win over Vassar College, Saturday evening at the Williamson Center.

The Thoroughbreds are 2-0 in Liberty League play and 5-5 overall. The Brewers fall to 1-1 and 4-6.

Vassar had no answer for Medunjanin who was 7-9 from the floor and 7-9 from the line in the second half. He scored eight of Skidmore's final 10 points and finished with three assists and a pair of steals.   Freshman Martin Bedulskij also reached double figures with 13 points.  Royce Paris and Issac Carp came off the bench to score nine points each.

Connor Merrill continued his run to 1000 career points with six to give him 992 going into Skidmore's next game at home Jan. 9 against Bard.  Merrill also contributed four blocks and eight rebounds.

Erikson Wasyl led four Vassar players in double figures with 16 points, including four threes. Curtis Smith had 14 points and Alex Snyder chipped in 11 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists. Luka Ladan scored 12 points.

Vassar led for 15:53 of the first half, but could never get more than six-points ahead of the Thoroughbreds, leading 29-28 at the break.

The Brewers went up by six, 39-33 on a Wasyl three pointer at 15:14. Skidmore responded with an 11-0 run to go up 44-39.  Carp had consecutive three pointers to spark the run.

The teams would exchange the lead eight more times the rest of the way, with neither team up by more than six.

Down 61-59, Skidmore turned to Medunjanin used an old-fashioned three-point play to give the Thoroughbreds the game's final lead change, 62-61 with 2:27 to play. Medunjanin would add another field goal and go 3-4 from the line to preserve the 69-65 win.

"It was a good team win tonight," said Skidmore coach Joe Burke.  "Vassar is a good basketball team and I thought they had the tempo of the game where they wanted. Fortunately, we executed down the stretch and made enough plays in the end to get the win.

"The weekend made me feel good about our bench. We have a couple guys out and on certain nights our main scorers may night get into rhythm. It important that guys pick up the slack and we did that this weekend. Long way to go in league play but I am obviously happy with the start."
