Men's Rowing

Rowers strong at Albany and Worchester

The Skidmore College men's and women's rowing teams produced solid performances over the busy weekend, as the teams faced stiff competition at the Albany, N.Y. and Worcester, Mass. regattas on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The Thoroughbreds took home four first-place finishes over the weekend.

On Saturday in Albany, the Thoroughbreds went up against boats from the University of Albany, Vassar, and RPI along the Hudson River. Three boats: The Women's Varsity 4+, the Men's Novice 4+, and Men's Varsity 8+ won their respective events. The Men's Varsity 8+ race was the closest, as the boat edged RPI by a second, finishing the 2,000-meter race in 6:30. Skidmore also tallied second place finishes in the Men's Varsity 4+, the Women's Varsity 8+, and the Women's Second Varsity 8+ events.

In Worchester, Skidmore faced tougher competition at Lake Quinsigamond as the men battled alongside Tufts, WPI, and Clark, while the women faced off against Tufts, WPI, Clark, and William Smith. The Men's Varsity 4+ triumphed in what was a competitive race against WPI and Clark. In the last 500 meters, the Thoroughbreds pulled away from second-place WPI, winning by 2:16 seconds with a time of 7:03.57. Although the Men's Third Varsity 8+ and Women's Varsity 8+ did not win their events, both crews had a strong row - they are continuing to develop as a cohesive boat, swinging with one another and gaining boat speed.

Skidmore Rowing now prepares for the Liberty League Championships, which will take place on Friday on Lake Saratoga in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The championship regatta begins at 3:15 p.m.
