Skidmore drops two to Union

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Union College pounded out 30 hits in a 9-3, 13-3 doubleheader Liberty League sweep over Skidmore College Saturday at Castle Diamond. The teams played four games in 26 hours.
 
The Thoroughbreds are 11-14 overall and 6-10 in Liberty League play. The Dutchmen jump to 17-5 and 9-3.
 
In the first game, Jake Hardy had an RBI double in the first inning to give Skidmore a 1-0 lead. Union scored two in the second and four in the third to go up 6-1. The Thoroughbreds got one back in the third on an RBI double from Justin LaRose.
 
Skidmore matched a Union run in the top of the fifth, with one in its half of the inning off an Andrew Knight double. The Dutchmen added two in the seventh for the 9-3 final.
 
Shawn Klier was 2-4 with a run, while Knight finished 2-4 with an RBI. Starter Sam Beck (0-2) took the loss.
 
Andy Labeck was 3-3 with four runs for Union, while Jack Koch went 2-3 with two RBI. Jake Vesling had the complete game win, throwing 124 pitches. He allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits, with seven strikeouts.
 
The Dutchmen struck early in game two with two in the first, three in the second and two in the third for a 7-1 lead.
 
Hayden Smith had an RBI single in the first Skidmore and Shawn Klier had a two run home run in the eighth to account for the team's three runs.
 
Klier was 2-4 with a double and home run, while Justin Bottcher went 2-2 off the bench with a double.
 
The Thoroughbreds used six pitchers, with starter Spencer Meyer (0-3) saddled with the loss.
 
Koch went 5-5 with four runs, a double and a triple for the Dutchmen, while Anthony Amoroso was 5-6 with three runs and four RBI. Andy Labeck was 3-5 with three runs, four RBI and a solo home run. Ryan Kuchar (2-1) went seven innings for the win. He allowed an unearned run on four hits, one walk and six strikeouts.
 
Skidmore is at MCLA on April 17 for a single game at 4 p.m.
