THOROUGHBRED SALUTE TO TOP SENIOR ATHLETES

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.-- Skidmore College honored its top senior athletes and team most valuable players recently as part of 2018 year-end activities.

Three-time All-American women's basketball player Kelly Donnelly and men's soccer standout Augustine Okoye were selected as Senior Athlete Award winners. Ice hockey captain Luke Alletzhauser and field hockey captain Kayla Rose received the Leadership Award. Alexa Goldberg of women's tennis was honored with the Community Service Award.

Christina Sanzari of women's soccer and Brendan Halloran of men's lacrosse received the Senior Scholar Athlete Awards, while field hockey's Seeley Fancher won the Tim Brown Scholar Athlete Award.

Each class was represented with a Thoroughbred Award winner. Winners were Connor Pelkey of ice hockey (senior), Edvinas Rupkus of men's basketball (junior), Elizabeth Levy of women's swimming (sophomore), and Noah Meren of men's basketball (first year).

Donnelly is the most decorated women's basketball player in program history. A three-time All-American, she is the first three-time Player of the Year in Liberty League history. Skidmore's all-time leading scorer with 1,823 points, Donnelly also had 1,032 rebounds.

Okoye is a three-time All-Liberty League honoree and a 2017 All-Region selection. An explosive scorer, he led the Liberty League in scoring as a senior and finished third on Skidmore's all-time scoring list with 30 goals and 11 assists for 71 points.

Alletzhauser and Rose were both highly respective team leaders. Unselfishly, Alletzhauser helped guide a young hockey program despite reduced ice time, doing whatever it took to ensure improved play. Rose was a two-year captain who was committed to developing and maintaining team culture, ensuring success on and off the field. She was the Liberty League Tournament MVP as a junior and earned all-conference honors as a senior.

Goldberg took on a lead role in the Student Athlete Advisory Committee's Change Direction Campaign. She wrote the script for the feature video and worked with SAAC and other campus departments to produce the video and posters.

Sanzari was a key player on the women's soccer team, maintaining a 3.93 GPA as a  psychology major and business minor. Halloran was an All-Conference lacrosse selection with a 3.786 GPA as a business major with an economics minor. Fancher had a 3.80 in neurosciences while being part of four-straight playoff teams.

Pelkey earned All-Conference honors in men's hockey. A natural leader on and off the ice, he played a key role in his team's development by taking many of the first-year players under his wing and made a huge impact on their transition to the college game and school/hockey balance.

Rupkus became the basketball program's second All-American and first two-time Academic All-American with a 3.92 GPA. As team captain, he organized the team's community service activities.

Levy earned women's swimming team MVP for her ability to exce in a wide variety of events, including a team record in the 200 butterfly. She has a 3.80 GPA and was a team captain as a sophomore. She is the team's SAAC rep and a peer health educator.

Meren was a Liberty League All-Rookie Team selection after a great first season that featured highlight reel dunks and key scoring. A stellar student, he was active in all of his team's community service projects.
